Our story

For sixteen years, our family lived in the Dominican Republic: in Manabao, in Jarabacoa, then in Santiago. We were volunteers there, and we wanted to give as much of our time as possible to others. To earn a part-time living, we opened our home in Jarabacoa in 2015: Chez Véro.

One or two Saturdays a month, by reservation only, two seatings of sixteen guests. Jean-François, the sommelier, chose a sequence of four or five wines; Véro, the chef, built a seven-course tasting menu around them. Laurent cooked with her; Georges-Étienne and Julien served in the dining room.

We were last among some thirty restaurants in Jarabacoa on TripAdvisor. Two months later, we were first. Guests drove nearly five hours to have dinner with us. Then Jean-François's work took over, and we had to close. We stayed first long afterwards, and for two years the phone kept ringing: “When are you reopening?”

Back then, we wrote that most of our guests could not afford to eat and drink this well every day of the week. Back in Quebec to care for our aging parents, we wanted to change that. Today, in Lachute, Véro cooks everyday meals with the same standards and the same generosity, frozen and ready when you are. As if you were eating at our place.
